Welcome to my website. I am a UKCP Registered Systemic Psychotherapist, based in Pocklington, a market town nestled in the Yorkshire Wolds between York and Hull.
I work from in Beverley on THURSDAY and FRIDAY and to see clients in my Pocklington rooms on MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY.
I am recognised by BUPA and Aviva as a provider of psychotherapy and have a long track record in both training and providing psychotherapy. I was a lecturer at the University of Leeds from 1994-2000, and after a couple of years working in New Zealand, lectured at the University of Hull from 2003-2012. I recently taught on the Masters in Relationship Therapy for the Relate Institute, and had a close relationship with Relate as a tutor (Relationship Counselling and Family Counselling) and have developed several online CPD courses for them.
Up until recently I worked in the NHS as a Systemic Psychotherapist (Family Therapist) in an adult service and have previously worked in both outpatient and inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
I offer private and confidential psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families and supervision and training for professionals and organisations. Please enquire for bespoke training and workshops.
After years of working in mental health, I believe that the majority of people experiencing mental distress have experienced some kind of trauma and I am sceptical about diagnoses and the idea of ‘chemical imbalance’. My approach is trauma-informed, and I am interested in what happened to you, not what is ‘wrong’ with you.
Much of my work now is with families who have adopted children, although I still see a lot of individuals, couples and families with diverse difficulties and challenges.
Here is a helpful leaflet What is Family Therapy? published by the Association for Family Therapy
The artwork on my website is taken from David Hockney’s paintings of the area around Pocklington.
